“Families can head out for a walk and hopefully unearth a few treasures along the way. It’s a fun, colourful and positive way to turn an ordinary stroll into a mini adventure” – EACH’s Bowthorpe shop is organising a special stone hunt

Youngsters are being encouraged to keep their eyes peeled and take part in a special stone hunt during the Easter holidays.

The fun activity is being organised by the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) shop in Bowthorpe.

Thirty brightly-decorated stones are being hidden in safe, public spots for young explorers to discover.

The colourful finds have been decorated by shop manager Michelle Hinton, featuring patterns ranging from cats, dogs and butterflies to unicorns, toadstools, hearts and flowers. One even shows the stick children depicted in EACH’s logo.

Some have positive, inspirational sayings underneath and ten extra-special stones feature a secret code that can be noted down, brought into the shop and exchanged for a prize.

Michelle says the activity is designed to encourage families to get outdoors, have fun and support EACH’s work. The charity has three bases – including one nearby at The Nook, in Framingham Earl.

“We wanted to create something that would capture children’s imagination during their Easter holidays,” she said.

“Families can head out for a walk and hopefully unearth a few treasures along the way. It’s a fun, colourful and positive way to turn an ordinary stroll into a mini adventure.

“We also want to raise awareness of our shop and remind the community that by donating goods and buying pre-loved items from us, they are directly helping children and families receiving care and support.”

The stones will be in place ready for the hunt to begin on Monday, 30th March.

When children find them, they can either leave them where they are or hide them elsewhere for others to unearth. Families are also being encouraged to share photos on social media.

Meanwhile, Michelle says she would love to hear from any potential volunteers interested in joining her team in Bowthorpe.

Extra pairs of hands are always appreciated, with various roles to suit all interests.
