A free Will-writing service is giving people the chance to make a ‘profound, lasting’ impact on families supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The charity has teamed up with Farewill – the nation’s best-rated Will provider – to give the opportunity to write a Will for free during national Free Wills Month, throughout October.
Although there is no obligation to leave a gift to EACH, the hope is that anyone taking advantage of the service may consider making a legacy donation to the charity, which supports families and cares for children across East Anglia.
“One in six of the children we support receives care because of a gift in a Will,” said Legacy Manager Alex Parker-Wiseman.
“It’s a telling statistic and shows the profound, lasting impact of legacy donations, as well as giving supporters the opportunity to do something important for themselves, helping tick off a job that will no doubt be in many people’s minds.
“That’s why we’re so pleased to partner with Freewill, during Free Wills Month.
“It’s important to say there’s no obligation to leave anything to EACH. We understand people’s loved ones always come first.
“However, it makes such a significant difference, and just one per cent of someone’s estate will help us continue to ensure the best possible quality of life for children and families using our services.”
EACH makes a series of pledges when someone leaves a gift in their Will.
“Aside from stressing the lack of pressure, we promise to use the gift carefully and cost effectively,” added Alex.
“We also respect people’s right to change their minds.
“More than ever, people are choosing to leave a legacy gift, which is why we’re grateful to hear from anyone interested in supporting EACH.
“I’m always available for a chat and would also strongly suggest joining me for a tour of one of our hospices – The Nook, near Norwich, The Treehouse, in Ipswich, and at Milton, near Cambridge.
“You have the chance to make such a difference, by helping families now and in the future, and what better way to see how and where that money is being spent.”

EACH relies on voluntary donations for the majority of its income and this year needs to raise £7.5 million from donations, fundraising activities, charitable trusts and gifts in Wills.
It also needs to raise £8.7 million in retail income, from shop and online sales, and only 15% of its income comes from the government, county councils and the NHS.
