“It’s heart-warming to see so many people come together and amazing to see their kindness blossom in such a visible and joyful way” – EACH is one of the nominated charities for this year’s Thriplow Daffodil Weekend and Country Fair

A vibrant village is set to bloom with community spirit when it hosts a two-day Daffodil Weekend and Country Fair in aid of charities including East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The popular floral fundraiser is taking place in Thriplow, just south of Cambridge, between 10am and 5pm on 21st and 22nd March.

Organised by an army of more than 400 volunteers, there will be open gardens throughout the village, in addition to a flower festival at St George’s Church.

Visitors will be treated to a host of family entertainment, including children’s games, a fun dog show, craft, gift and food stalls, tractor rides, classic cars, live music, street food, a beer tent and Morris dancing.

EACH successfully applied to be one of this year’s nominated charities and will receive a percentage of the net profit from the weekend.

“We’re excited and absolutely delighted to be one of the beneficiaries of this year’s Daffodil Weekend,” said Victoria Goldsmith, EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser for Cambridgeshire and West Essex.

“This is a fabulously successful and long-standing event, where people’s generosity and community spirit truly shines through.

“It’s heart-warming to see so many people come together and amazing to see their kindness blossom in such a visible and joyful way.

“The funds we receive will make such a tremendous difference, helping us continue our vital work supporting children and families across East Anglia. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Victoria will be part of a team manning an EACH stall.

As well as providing an opportunity to raise awareness and have key conversations about the charity’s work, they will be selling tickets for a Lego hamper raffle worth approximately £120. There will also be a lucky numbers-style game to win a giant Winnie the Pooh.

Thriplow Daffodil Weekend started in 1969 when the village church needed major roof repairs. Residents decided to raise funds by opening their gardens and making cups of tea for their visitors.

Over the course of the following decades, the event has raised more than £500,000 for charities within 30 miles of Thriplow. EACH was fortunate enough to be one of the beneficiaries in both 2017 and 2020, raising a combined £13,500.

Tickets for this year’s show cost £12 for adults and £6 for children aged five to 16. Under-fives are free and parking costs £1. They can be bought by heading to www.thriplowdaffodils.org.uk

Tickets are limited due to size of the village and sell out every year, so anyone interested in coming along is advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
