“EACH is a charity we love to support because it fits in with our club’s ethos, given that it’s local and does so much to support children and young people” – popular classic car show is returning to Culford School

Motoring fans are set to rev into action and help raise vital funds for charity by attending a much-loved classic car show.

The bumper event, organised by Bury Abbey Rotary Club, with support from neighbouring Rotary clubs, is taking place at Culford School, near Bury St Edmunds, on Sunday, 12th July. More than 500 classic cars will be on display, and this year’s two headline charities are East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and Brave Futures.

“It’s a great example of the power of Rotary,” said Senior Event Manager Phil Peters, from Bury Abbey Rotary Club. “This will be the fourth year in a row we’ve supported EACH, and in that time, we’ve raised £53,973, including generous donations from Culford School. It’s a partnership we’re extremely proud of and sums up what Rotary is all about, in addition to the fellowship of working together as a team to put on the event.

“EACH is a charity we love to support because it very much fits in with our club’s ethos, given that it’s local and does so much to support children and young people, as well as their families. They’re the future, and it’s our pleasure to do what we can to help. We hope people come along not only to enjoy the cars, but also because they understand the difference their support makes.”

This year’s show is expected to attract around 5,000 visitors, with cars on display including models from British and European icons like Alfa Romeo, Austin and Morris, spanning the 1960s to the 1990s. There will also be American classics, modern and retro sports cars, including Ferraris. Most are provided by car clubs, with around a quarter belonging to individual car owners.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone at Bury Abbey Rotary Club, the neighbouring Rotary Clubs, Culford School, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who supports this fantastic event,” said Ali Butler, EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser for Suffolk. “The generosity shown over the last three years has raised an amazing amount, helping us continue providing care and support for children, young people and families across East Anglia.

“We’re delighted to once again be one of the headline charities and hope lots of people come along and enjoy a wonderful day out, while helping make a real difference to our vital work.”

The show was previously held in Elveden but doubled in size after moving to the beautiful grounds of Culford School in 2021. It is entirely run by volunteers, including many from neighbouring Rotary Clubs. There is disabled access, dogs on leads are welcome and there will be around 70 stalls, including crafts, produce, hot food and one from EACH.

Tickets can be bought at a discounted rate online and the prices are £8 for a car or motorcycle and one person, £16 for a car or motorcycle and up to three people and £24 for a car and four or more people. Children under five are free.

This year’s show is being sponsored by Stratstone BMW Bury St Edmunds, Hazells, Krazy Horse, Rawlinson Bury St Edmunds, Classic Prestige, Lacy Scott and Knight Auctioneers, Anglia Car Auctions, CARS Worldwide Transportation Services, STORIK Ltd, Abbey Security Services, Manchetts and Wheelcare.
