“The total exceeded our expectations, and we’re grateful to everyone who made a donation, as well as the stores for allowing us to set up camp for the day” – Colchester Forum Rotary Club delivers a belated Christmas present to EACH

Kind-hearted Rotarians raised £2,600 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) after organising a series of festive bucket collections in North Essex.

In total, 20 members of Colchester Forum Rotary Club spent two days outside Tesco, in High Woods, and another two at Marks and Spencer, at Stane Park.

On each occasion, Father Christmas was on hand to greet shoppers and pose for pictures alongside his sleigh.

President Kevin Sturdy and committee member Tony Dutch presented a bumper cheque during a visit to EACH’s Ipswich hospice, The Treehouse, on Friday.

Mr Sturdy said: “We were delighted to raise as much as we did.

“The total exceeded our expectations, and we’re grateful to everyone who made a donation, as well as the stores for allowing us to set up camp for the day.

“Christmas can be a difficult and expensive time of year, especially amid a tough cost-of-living crisis, but people were incredibly generous.

“EACH is clearly a charity that resonates with many – as it does with our committee – because it’s local and all about children, which is especially apt at Christmas.

“It’s a cause we’re thrilled to support and have a long-standing relationship with.”

Colchester Forum Rotary Club, which has 40 members and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has been raising funds for EACH for the best part of a decade, previously organising bucket collections at the city’s North station.

EACH Community Fundraiser Anne Austin said: “We’re so grateful to Kevin, Tony and everyone at Colchester Forum Rotary Club.

“This is a fantastic amount of money, and our sincere thanks go to everyone who took the time to generously put money in buckets.

“These funds will make a significant difference in terms of helping us continue our vital work, caring for children and supporting families across East Anglia.”

EACH has two shops in Colchester – one in High Street and the other at Angora Park, Stanway – as well as stores in Clacton, Dovercourt, Frinton and Halstead.
