“We’re so proud of how this event has grown, given it started out as a simple idea among friends. Every year, it gets better, and everyone’s commitment is amazing” – Chris and Grant’s third football match raises more than £1,300

Footballers got in the spirit and helped raise more than £1,300 during an eagerly anticipated charity match for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The fun contest was arranged by Hellesdon-based friends Chris Fisher and Grant Miles and took place on the main 3G pitch at The Nest, in Horsford.

Thirty-two players took part, and this was the third instalment of the annual event, following hot on the heels of similar in matches in 2023 and 2024. The overall total raised is now in the region of £3,600.

Co-organiser Chris said: “We were completely overwhelmed with the support this year – from returning players, who’ve been with us for all three events, to new faces, who joined us for the first time.

“Everyone came together to raise money, have fun and make a difference.”

The match took place on Sunday, 1st June, and red and blue teams battled it out in a lively, well-contested game, finishing 3-3 after full time. The match then went to penalties, with the blue team narrowly clinching a 4-3 victory.

Both teams had managers and assistant managers, and the match was presided over by an official FA referee.

Co-organiser Grant added: “We’re so proud of how this event has grown, given it started out as a simple idea among friends.

“Every year, it gets better, and everyone’s commitment is amazing. We’re already making plans for the fourth match next year – and we’d love to see even more people get involved.”

The game was followed by a barbecue and trophy ceremony for top goal-scorer and player-of-the-match.
