Youngsters are being encouraged to let their creative juices flow while also raising vital funds for charity.
Dovercourt’s East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) shop is organising a fun competition to design a summer postcard.
The contest is open to all children under the age of 16, and the brief is to draw or colour a picture and write a few words about why they love living in the area.
They should also design a stamp for the top right-hand corner and add the name and address of the person they are sending it to – either real life or made up.
“We’re very excited to see what children produce,” said Sales Supervisor Kim Oliff.
“They have the chance to be as creative and colourful as they like, and hopefully it gives them something fun to do during their school summer holiday.
“It’s also a lovely opportunity to celebrate why we all love living in our beautiful town, here on the Tendring coastline.
“We realise how lucky we are, and events like this are a great way to get even closer to our community – a community we all feel so passionate about.”
Blank postcards can be picked up in-store or printed at home by clicking here.
Entry costs £1, which is payable when the completed card is returned.
There are prizes to be won, and all entries will be displayed in the Main Road shop.
The closing date is Saturday, 23rd August and the judge is Harwich’s Deputy Mayor, Sean Fay.
Meanwhile, anyone interested in volunteering in the shop can pop in for a chat, email manager Kathryn Newell via [email protected] or call 01255 442707.
This year alone, EACH needs to raise £8 million from donations and fundraising activities and £9.8 million in retail income. Only 15% of its income comes from the government, county councils and the NHS.
