The outgoing Chair of Trustees at East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) says it has been an ‘absolute privilege and honour’ to spend the last decade as part of the charity.
Brad McLean has served as a Trustee since 2016 and been Chair since 2023. Yesterday was his last day in the role.
“It’s been the greatest privilege to be part of EACH and to meet so many people across the organisation,” said Brad, who lives in Wymondham and is General Manager of The Gog Magog Golf Club, near Cambridge. He and his family received bereavement support from EACH following the death of their 18-month-old son, Stanley, in 2012.
“Without their dedication, hard work and commitment, the organisation couldn’t be there for children and their families when they need it most.
“As a bereaved dad, I can speak from first-hand experience about the importance of the work EACH does.
“The impact made through short breaks, day care, therapies, bereavement support, family activities and end-of-life care creates moments families remember forever.
“Every day, the team helps children and families experience the best possible quality of life. It’s a profound responsibility but one they fulfil admirably.”
During Brad’s time as a Trustee, EACH has undergone significant development, including the opening of The Nook, the ongoing redevelopment of The Treehouse and improvements to family accommodation at Milton.
Brad is proud to have been involved and believes there is plenty more to be excited and positive about in the future.
“The recently-launched, co-produced care strategy gives me great confidence in EACH’s future,” he said.
“It will enable us to support more children, provide more families with EACH’s incredible care and activities, and reach families earlier in their journey.”
Brad also welcomed the appointment of Nicky Richardson as the charity’s new Chair.
“I’m very pleased to hand the role over to Nicky,” he said.
“With the support of a strong Board of Trustees and a skilled Executive Team, all of whom are deeply committed to EACH, I have no doubt the charity will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Although stepping away from EACH, Brad will continue supporting the children’s hospice sector through his role as a Trustee for Together for Short Lives. He joined the board in October 2025.
He said: “I intend to keep pushing for fairer funding, greater national awareness of the work children’s hospices do and access to support for every child and family across the UK, no matter where they live.”
