Music, mocktails, foam and dancing were the order of the day as families supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) enjoyed an Ibiza-style party at The Treehouse.
More than 40 people from 13 families came together for an unforgettable night, and both children and parents had the chance to step behind the decks and try their hand at DJing. They were able to relax, have fun and enjoy the experience in a familiar setting tailored to their individual needs.
“Seeing families laughing, dancing and making memories together was absolutely wonderful,” said Kelly Evans, EACH’s Groups and Events Co-ordinator at The Treehouse. “For many of those we support, attending an event of this nature would be out of the question in a public setting. It simply wouldn’t work for them in the way it does here. We can adapt everything to meet their needs and create an environment that is safe, friendly, welcoming and truly inclusive. Because families know the setting and people around them, they can relax and focus on enjoying themselves.”
The event was made possible thanks to volunteer DJ Simon Shreeve, who brought along his own equipment to help create an authentic party atmosphere. In addition to dancing in foam, families were able to tuck into a delicious spread of food, including a stunning record-player cake complete with lights and moving parts.
“The team here is absolutely phenomenal, pulling out all the stops to make these incredible events possible,” added Kelly, who organised the evening with Music Therapist Ray Travasso and Play Specialist Hailey Allen. “No stone is left unturned, and it’s the care, creativity and attention to detail that make such a difference. Whether it’s creating a mocktail bar, organising sensory experiences, setting up the music or adding those special touches that make children smile, everyone goes above and beyond. No-one settles for second best, and together we’re able to elevate every event to a whole new level.”
EACH hosts regular interactive music nights at its Ipswich hospice. They give children an opportunity to explore sound, rhythm and imagination in a way that suits them, supported by volunteer musicians from across the community.
