A Christmas single promoting themes of hope, compassion and togetherness is the focal point of an ambitious community project aiming to raise vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The initiative is being launched by Hunstanton-based WYOS Media and centres around a song called Catch a Shooting Star.
The track has been written by children’s author and songwriter Damian Carruthers and features the singing talent of Laura Turner and Kristie Read, with local producer Stef Judd taking on the track production. It will be accompanied by a music video when it launches on 1st December.
The campaign’s organisers are looking to partner with community champions in the area to run their own events and take part in fundraising activities.
Through donations, fundraising events and support for the song, they have set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £10,000.
“EACH does such incredible work for children, young people and families across our region,” said Damian.
“This is our way of showing appreciation, and every donation, every share online and every act of kindness will help us move closer to our fundraising target.
“Catch a Shooting Star is at the emotional heart of the campaign.
“It’s a song that carries our message far beyond a traditional fundraiser and reminds us what can happen when people unite behind something meaningful.
“This is more than just a fundraising campaign, though. It’s a moment for our community to come together through music, kindness and shared purpose.
“Everyone can play their part. Everyone can make a difference, and everyone can catch a shooting star.”
Damian released his debut children’s book, The Cheese Miner on The Moon, in 2020. Earlier this year, he organised Hunstanton Fringe Fest, featuring talented artists from across the region, and he also co-owns Audio Avenue Magazine.
Working closely alongside him is Jo Pope, who is passionate about local community and charity work. She is part of the organising committee for March Summer Festival, and, in addition, often finds herself entering challenges for charity. Her next challenge is a five-day trek in Transylvania.
“I was honoured to be asked to help Damain with the project,” said Jo.
“Volunteering and community work is a superpower and this is for such a great cause.”
Natasha Butler, EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser in Norfolk, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Damian and everyone involved in this fantastic community collaboration.
“The support of people, groups and businesses across our region makes a huge difference to the children, young people and families who rely on our services.
“It’s wonderful to see so many people coming together through music, kindness and fundraising, and we wish everyone involved every success with Catch a Shooting Star.
“Every pound raised will help us continue providing vital care and support when families need us most.”
