Suffolk-based volunteers were hailed for their ‘amazing contribution’ during a special celebration event organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
More than 100 people attended the thank you day, which took place at Ipswich Town Football Club. They had the chance to meet staff and trustees, find out more about the charity’s work and hear from a mum whose son receives care from EACH.
After being welcomed and thanked by EACH Chief Executive Kevin Clements, the volunteers heard more about EACH’s new five-year care strategy from Director of Care Helen Finlinson. They were also given retail, fundraising and financial updates, as well as the opportunity to use balls of wool and coloured beads to participate in a special art therapy activity. A raffle and tombola also proved popular.
Volunteer Services Partner Scarlett Farnell, who helped organise the day, said: “It was lovely to come together and celebrate the amazing contribution our volunteers make across EACH. There was such enthusiasm in the room. Everyone engaged and got in the spirit of the day, which made it feel incredibly special. I hope our wonderful volunteers enjoyed themselves and felt appreciated, having been given the recognition they so richly deserve.
“They support just about every area of the organisation, and their dedication, generosity and willingness to give their time makes a real difference to the children, young people and families receiving our care and support. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them, and this event was a way of celebrating the difference they make every single day.”
The volunteers help in various ways, including giving their time to support EACH’s care, facilities, fundraising, events and Help at Home teams. Many others help in one of the charity’s 17 Suffolk shops.
The thank you day took place on Wednesday and followed a similar event at Norwich City Football Club, in addition to a smaller gathering in Cambridge. There is one more to come, for EACH’s Essex-based volunteers, which will take place later this month in Colchester.
