Cromer author Rod Dennis is set to meet readers and donate signed copies of his books during a special launch event at the town’s East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) shop.
Rod, who writes under the pen name Bob Able, will be at the Tucker Street store opposite Cromer Church from 10am on Monday, 3rd August to promote the release of his latest title, Time’s Up.
Visitors will be able to browse a dedicated display of his work, chat with the author and pick up signed copies of his books, starting from £3.
“I’ve supported EACH for a number of years, mostly through using its amazing book section,” said Rod, who previously lived in Aylsham and worked in Norwich.
“It’s an excellent, well-managed and superbly presented resource and anything that makes books more affordable and accessible to the wider public gets my vote.”
Rod’s writing journey began after he was diagnosed with cancer, when he decided to turn a long-held ambition of becoming an author into reality.
Since then, he has self-published 22 books, covering a wide range of genres including travel writing, cosy crime and thrillers.
His first book, Spain Tomorrow, written shortly after his diagnosis, was followed by further travel titles and a series of crime novels.
Now dividing his time between Spain and Cromer, Rod continues to find inspiration in the people and places around him and, as well as being a frequent customer, has regularly supported the shop by donating books.
“I got to the cliff edge and didn’t like the look of the fall. Cancer can do that to you, but it gave me a new perspective and the drive to do something positive,” added the 70-year-old, who is now in the process of trying to find a literary agent.
“It made me think about children, because their future is our future. To think of young people needing hospice care makes me emotional, and that’s why I’m so keen to support EACH. It does the most incredible job.”
Time’s Up follows hot on the heels of Rod’s other recent release, The Murder in Manilla.
“We’re delighted Rod has chosen to support us by donating copies of his books,” said shop manager Roxanne Goff.
“It’s fantastic to be able to showcase the work of a talented local author, and we hope the display attracts both existing fans and people who are discovering his writing for the first time.
“We’re always looking to encourage more book donations in our shop, and this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading while supporting our charity.
“It should be a special occasion, and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone along.”
