“Every donation helps us provide the best possible quality of life for children and young people, making every moment count” – EACH’s Summer Appeal is helping families create precious memories together

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) has launched its annual Summer Appeal – encouraging the public to raise vital funds and help families create lasting memories together.

The postal, email and social media campaign is themed around a trip to the seaside and features a message from mum Jodie Barden, whose 13-year-old daughter, Chloe, has a rare genetic condition called Cockayne Syndrome. Jodie explains that opportunities to spend quality time as a family can be difficult to find, but thanks to EACH, they have been able to enjoy visits to the beach in Felixstowe. With support from the charity’s care team and using specialist equipment like a beach wheelchair, they can have days at the seaside that would otherwise be impossible.

Jodie said: “We always have such a great time at the beach. It’s hard finding things we can all enjoy together, as a family. Even something simple like going to the park or for a bike ride can be difficult because it’s impossible for me to be in different places at once. An opportunity like this, which wouldn’t be possible otherwise, means a lot and is greatly appreciated.”

Chloe enjoys going to the beach with her 19-year-old sister, Ella, who also has Cockayne Syndrome and previously received support from EACH. They are joined by sister Mia, eight.

In addition to an email and social media campaign, Jodie’s words feature on a postcard set to land on doormats across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The appeal is built around a simple message – that every child deserves the chance to experience fun, laughter, family time and activities that help them thrive – and includes a letter from EACH Occupational Therapist Jo Crane.

“For many families, a trip to the seaside is a spontaneous outing. For those caring for a child with a life-limiting condition, it often requires significant planning, specialist equipment and support,” said Jo. “The support we provide helps make experiences possible that many of us take for granted. Whether it’s a day at the beach, taking part in activities outside the hospice or simply spending quality time together, these moments can make an enormous difference.

“This summer, we’re asking people to support our appeal so we can help more families create lasting memories and enjoy the simple joys of childhood. Every donation helps us provide the best possible quality of life for children and young people, making every moment count.”

Donations will help EACH continue providing opportunities for families to enjoy days out and create precious childhood memories. They will also help fund care and activities beyond hospice and home settings, in addition to experiences that ensure siblings enjoy special moments together.
