Talented footballers have the chance to show their skills while taking part in a Girl Power Festival raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The event, at Coplestonians Sports Centre, in Ipswich, is set to feature nearly 200 young players from across Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk. It is being held between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, 14th June.
Open to all abilities, the girls will compete in under-seven and under-eight age groups – doing battle in an exciting series of three-versus-three matches.
“Unlike similar events, entry is free thanks to the kindness and generosity of our sponsors – AllGlass Anglia, DJ Mackenzies Ltd, The Lighthouse Group, Sarah’s Coffee Shop and Bounce Ipswich,” said Jim Dale, one of the organisers from Coplestonians FC.
“The event has also been supported by the Suffolk Girls’ and Women’s Football League.
“There will be vendors selling refreshments, including ice creams, candy floss, popcorn and sweets, with a barbecue running all day, and all money raised from the day is being shared evenly between Coplestonians FC and EACH.
“We’re delighted to be hosting our third festival of the season and bringing together so many talented young players for what promises to be a fantastic celebration of football.
“It’s about much more than the game itself, though. It’s an opportunity to support a very worthwhile cause while championing the growth of girls’ football in our community and across East Anglia.
“We’ve seen participation grow throughout the season, and the confidence gained and friendships made along the way have been really special to witness.
“We hope this event will inspire the next generation of players to simply love and play the game and in doing so, raise valuable funds for a very special charity. We’re so incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped make all of this possible.”
EACH volunteers will be running a stall, giving passers-by the opportunity to find out more about the charity’s vital work.
“It’s wonderful that so many young girls are going to be taking part in a day that celebrates sport, teamwork and community, while raising vital funds for our charity,” said Ali Butler, EACH’s Senior Community Fundraiser for Suffolk.
“We’re extremely grateful to the organisers and all those taking part and looking forward to seeing the positive impact this event will have both on and off the pitch.”
There will be certificates and medals for every player, as well as a trophy for all the competing clubs.
Spectators are welcome, and there will also be music, facepainting and other trade stands, in addition to four children’s bouncy castles that will be free to use courtesy of LS Events.
