Two youngsters receiving care from East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) got their skates on as part of a fun-packed mission to coincide with World Penguin Day.
The adventurous pair enjoyed a trip to Cambridge Ice Arena, where staff helped guide their wheelchairs onto the rink so they could be part of the action.
They were joined by members of the care team at Milton, who skilfully helped skate their passengers across the ice.
“Seeing their reactions made the day so special,” said Nurse Becky Vale.
“One of the girls absolutely loved the cold air on her face, and there was lots of laughter when others took a tumble. It really lifted everyone’s spirits.
“We’re so grateful to the team at the arena for making this possible. They were incredibly supportive and made sure the experience was accessible and enjoyable from start to finish.”
Although penguins proved elusive at the rink, some were discovered hiding in the sensory garden back at Milton.
“It was a brilliant day, and a great time was had by all,” added Becky.
“Once again, it highlighted the importance of having fun and creating special moments for the children and young people receiving our care.”
The skating trip coincided with World Penguin Day on 25th April.
