Health and safety guidelines for fundraising event volunteers

Thanks for volunteering to help us, we want to take care of you…

EACH has a duty of care to provide a safe and healthy workplace and environment for all of its staff, families, volunteers and visitors. It is also the duty of all of us to take reasonable care of our own safety and to take reasonable care of the safety of others who may be affected by what we do or fail to do.

Health and safety guidelines whilst at an event

You have a responsibility to:

• Ensure no action is to be taken by you which could threaten the health and safety of yourself and other persons.
• Report anything which you may feel may affect the health and safety of yourself and others to a member of fundraising staff.
• To follow health and safety procedures laid down by the fundraising team.

Manual handing:

• Please try to avoid moving/lifting heavy items – remember that moving/lifting heavy things can lead to back pain and injury!
• For larger items – ask others to help you, or split big loads into smaller loads. If in doubt talk this through with a member of staff.
• Are you fit to lift? If you have a back problem, do not lift heavier items!

If you feel unwell or need first aid:

• Please tell us about any pre-existing medical conditions (below).
• Please let a member of fundraising staff know if you are unable to attend on the day or if you need to leave early.
• Every event will have a designated first aider, who should be called upon in the event of any accidents. A member of staff will be able to tell you who this person is. All incidents and accidents must be reported to a member of staff.
