“It was a unique opportunity for the dads and male carers to meet, chat, relax and have some time together, while also enjoying a lovely curry” – EACH hosts a ‘tech, talk and tandoori’ night at The Treehouse

Dads and male carers came together for a ‘tech, talk and tandoori’ night hosted by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

It was for those who are either bereaved or have a son or daughter receiving care at The Treehouse, in Ipswich.

In addition to enjoying a delicious curry together, the group also spent time looking at some of the state-of-the-art equipment recently donated by the Lifelites charity.

“It was a great success and a unique opportunity for the dads and male carers to meet, chat, relax and have some time together, while also enjoying a lovely curry,” said EACH Music Therapist Ray Travasso.

“We’re trying to build this group and looking forward to running more nights like this in the future.”

Lifelites provides the latest assistive and inclusive technology to children’s hospice and palliative care centres across the British Isles.

Earlier this year it delivered and installed equipment, worth around £54,000, for families to use at The Treehouse.

The package included a soundbeam, which enables children to create music, and a mobile magic carpet, which allows them to play with images that can be projected onto the floor, wheelchair tray or bed.

It also featured eyegaze equipment, which makes it possible to paint a picture, play games and communicate by tracking the child’s eye movements with a special sensor.

Lifelites provides training, maintenance and support and aims to provide a completely new, free package of the latest technology every four years.

Trainer Dan Brand was on hand to meet the five dads and male carers and explain how the equipment works.
