“It’s a great way to recycle things and spread the joy, while generating extra funds for such a special and worthwhile cause” – Peter and Val raise another £1,000 for EACH after selling books and puzzles in their Corpusty shop

Bookworms and puzzle-lovers have been staying entertained while supporting a community shop initiative and raising funds for charity.

Peter and Val Johnson run Corpusty Stores, the SPAR shop in their North Norfolk village, and recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Senior Corporate Fundraiser Laura Southcott.

It was their second donation, having previously handed over £1,000 in 2022.

“It amazes me how quickly the money adds up,” said Peter, who has also donated books and clothes to the EACH shop in Holt.

“We have a collection pot on our counter but the vast majority of the money has come from selling books and puzzles.

“Our customers are incredibly supportive and, after buying them, they often bring them back for others to enjoy.

“It’s a great way to recycle things and spread the joy, while generating extra funds for such a special and worthwhile cause.

“The Nook is on our doorstep and we feel strongly about supporting a local charity – one that offers care and support to children and families here in our community.

“Thanks go to our loyal friends and customers for being so generous and getting behind us as they do.”

Peter, 76, and Val, 58, are no strangers to raising funds for EACH.

They first started collecting and selling books and jigsaws during lockdown, when many shops and libraries were closed.

They also raised extra funds from hosting a garden party during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Laura said: “We’re so grateful for the help and support we receive from Peter and Val.

“It’s a wonderful community initiative and, of course, we’re also very thankful to all their loyal customers for making this donation possible.”
