Spirited Santas get up Claus and personal for a day of festive fun in Cambridge

Ho, ho, ho!

There were Father Christmases left, right and Santa during a day of festive fundraising at Granta Park, in Cambridge.

Staff from various businesses dressed up like the great man himself for a special 5km run.

Fifteen firms were represented and together they raised more than £2,500 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Billie Race, EACH Corporate Fundraiser, said: “It was a fantastic day, full of festive fun.

“This is an established event in our calendar and it was lovely to be back, having been forced to miss out last year.

“Everyone involved was a great sport and got in the spirit, sharing a laugh and joke while running in their Santa outfits.

“We hope to have raised over £2,500 which is a fantastic outcome and will help us continue supporting families and caring for children and young people in Cambridgeshire and across East Anglia.”

150 people signed-up to take part and ran, jogged or walked the course, helping paint the park red for an event that was first held in 2014.

It was kindly sponsored by BioMed Realty and supported by Granta Park and Bidwells.

Notes to Editors

  • We care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, and support their families.
  • We offer families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support, including where their child dies – at home, in hospital or at one of three hospices at Milton (Cambridge), The Nook (Norfolk) and The Treehouse (Ipswich).
  • Our family-centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management support, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies and counselling, all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family.
  • We are recognised as leaders in our field, with a reputation for excellence and commitment to pioneering development and innovation.
  • We rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income and this year need to raise £5.5 million from fundraising and £5.4 million in income from our shops. The year before the pandemic we received just 16% of our total income from statutory sources.
