Sleigh cheese! EACH fundraiser will make Father Christmas the Santa of attention in Woodbridge

Yule never guess who’s making a special visit to Woodbridge!

Father Christmas himself is heading to the Suffolk town – and ready to Claus a real stir in terms of raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Santa’s Sleigh will be doing the rounds on two dates in December and all proceeds will go to the charity, which supports families and provides care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. It has three hospices, including The Treehouse, in Ipswich.

The festive treat is being organised by the Woodbridge-based Company of Four Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, using a sleigh provided by Woodbridge Deben Rotary Club.

Organiser Vicky Fosker said: “The sleigh’s a great opportunity to get out in the community, publicise our pantomime and raise money for EACH.

“We’ve chosen to support the charity as we feel it’s a very worthwhile cause.

“It does such a fantastic job throughout the year but it must be especially difficult for staff, children and families leading up to Christmas.

“Joining me on the night will be Oliver Fosker, Adam Thorpe and Ian Baker.

“However, I know we’ll have many more volunteers to help us with the sleigh on the night.

“We’re also fortunate that Ian, one of our life members, gives us the opportunity to use the sleigh as he organises it on behalf of Woodbridge Deben Rotary Club.”

The sleigh will do the rounds on Wednesday, 8th December and Thursday, 9th December.

On the first, it will visit Woodbridge’s Peterhouse Estate, taking in Newnham Avenue, Girton Close, Peterhouse Crescent (west side), Pembroke Avenue (and the closes off it), Queens Avenue (and the closes off it) and Claire Avenue.

The following night, Santa will head to Naunton Road (and closes off it), Grundisburgh Road, Moors Way, Moorefield Road and Hasketon Road (and sideroads).

Collections, which will be subject to the weather, will begin at 5.45pm and end by 8pm.

Company of Four, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022, performs an annual pantomime every year and will be staging Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the February half-term.

“We also perform musicals and variety shows and participate at local events, with the Santa sleigh being one of those events,” added Vicky.

“Next year is our 50th anniversary and, as a company, we’re very proud of the fact we’ve been entertaining the people of Woodbridge for half a century.”
