Siblings got creative and competitive during a day of summer challenges.
The fun-packed session was for siblings being supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) at The Nook.
They were either bereaved or those with a brother or sister receiving care, and seven youngsters took part in games involving tinfoil, paint, socks and Smarties.
They also enjoyed a therapeutic music activity with EACH Music Therapist Jane Rous-Milligan.
“There were lots of smiles and giggles throughout the day,” said EACH Groups and Events Co-ordinator Clare Oakley.
“The children enjoyed some fun challenges together, including being tasked with making a person or character out of tinfoil.
“We then went outside for a nature walk and found items including leaves, flowers, fir cones and stones, to use as a paintbrush.
“The children were incredibly inventive, and the items they used were very effective.
“After a break, Jane joined us for our music room ‘jam’.
“While she played music, the children used different colours and art materials to reflect their mood. They were engrossed, and it was a powerful way to convey their feelings.”
After lunch and some time on The Nook’s playground, the fun continued with a game where the children went head-to-head, using a straw to transfer as many Smarties as possible from one bowl to another in 30 seconds.
They then had to work their way through a pile of mixed socks, seeing how many they could match in a set amount of time.
The day finished with parents arriving to join the group for tea and cake.
The sibling day took place on 27th August.
It was the second of the summer for brothers and sisters being supported at The Nook, following on from a visit to The Puppet Tree, in West Runton.
