Families tackled wacky obstacles, water and mud while helping a leading children’s charity enjoy a day of record-breaking success. More than 1,300 people signed-up for the popular Piglet Junior Hog, held at Wantisden Hall, in Woodbridge – in the process raising a staggering £48,500.
Sunday’s event was organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and the amount raised smashed last year’s total of £31,000. The family-friendly four-kilometre obstacle course was open to everyone over the age of eight and participants set off in separate waves.
Becky Redbond, Events Fundraising Manager, said: “It was such a fabulous day and we couldn’t have been more delighted to raise £48,500.
“It’s an incredible amount of money – the most we’ve ever raised from this event – and will make such a huge difference to the children, young people and families receiving our care and support. It’s phenomenal and our thanks go to everyone who signed up and came along on the day. I hope they enjoyed it as much as we did.
“The Piglet is an event families seem to love. They really connect with it and it’s something everyone can get involved in, regardless of age or ability. There’s nothing quite like it in the area and the fact so many people come back year after year speaks volumes.
“We’re already looking forward to doing it all over again in 2024.”
Nine hundred people signed up for Piglet last year – 400 less than Sunday – and the event continues to get bigger and better. Five hundred people took part when the event was first held in 2019. The Piglet, sponsored by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), is perfect for those looking for a shorter route than EACH’s adults-only Whole Hog, in October.
Everyone who took part received a new breathable t-shirt and medal.
“I’d like to sincerely thank our main sponsors, MSC, for their continued support,” added Becky.
“Likewise 1Rule UK, who organised a warm-up for all the participants before each wave set off. They got everyone pumped up and in the mood for fun. Finally, I must thank all staff and especially our loyal volunteers who gave up their time to make this event happen. It wouldn’t be possible without them.”
There are more big dates to come in EACH’s calendar, including Sunday’s Norwich Bubble Rush and the Suffolk Pier 2 Pier walk, from Lowestoft to Southwold, on 2nd September. Both the Piglet and Norwich Bubble Rush have already been booked for next year.
