Christmas well-wishers in Cambridge helped to raise more than £11,000 at the Light Up EACH Life Concert, hosted by EACH.
The musical festive feast, held at Great St Mary’s Church, featured Cambridge based music group We Are Sound and a guest appearance from Scottish virtuoso percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie. Comedian Griff Rhys Jones, who is a loyal supporter of EACH, also attended the evening and welcomed the audience with a speech.
The Light Up EACH Life Concert raised an impressive £11,300, with funds still coming in, to continue our vital care services for local children and young people with life-threatening conditions.
We Are Sound performed a varied set list with some festive hits and well-known songs using 120 vocalists and instrumentalists. Andrea Cockerton, arts entrepreneur and founder of We Are Sound said: “We had a fabulous evening playing to such a fantastic Cambridge audience! The festive atmosphere was electric and all our members had a blast! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported EACH, it’s lovely to work with a local charity who helps so many families across Cambridgeshire.”
The evening also featured percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie performing a piece of music she composed herself. Evelyn has been profoundly deaf since the age of 12 and has taught herself to hear with parts of her body other than her ears.
Dame Evelyn Glennie said: “I am delighted to be supporting EACH by participating in the Light up EACH Life concert with the wonderful We Are Sound. The dedication of all who are connected with EACH is valued beyond words and I want to be sure that all children and their families continue to be given the best care and attention possible.”
Before the concert EACH held a procession, led by Griff Rhys Jones, down Trinity Street to Great St Mary’s Church, holding lanterns created by children who use services through the charity passing iconic Cambridge landmarks lit up in EACH colours of purple and orange.
Sian Hewitt, EACH Events Fundraiser (Cambs and East Essex), added: “On behalf of all of us at EACH I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Light Up EACH Life Concert. The performances from We Are Sound and Dame Evelyn Glennie were amazing and to have Griff Rhys Jones there to support us was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this a special night to remember – your support really will make a difference to the lives of the children and young people EACH cares for.”
The event formed part of the Light Up EACH Life campaign which runs throughout December and celebrates the life of every child and family EACH cares for.
