We were delighted to welcome 350 guests to our Gala Dinner on Wednesday 30th November at the famous Hintze Hall at the heart of the Natural History Museum to raise funds for the nook appeal.

The pinnacle of the night was an exclusive performance from EACH Ambassador Ed Sheeran who treated guests to a 40 minute acoustic set.

Annabel Hughes and Sir Martyn Lewis

The special evening was hosted by EACH Vice President, Sir Martyn Lewis CBE and saw guests treated to a three course gourmet meal, auction, as well as stories from two families who benefit from EACH's services.

The event was raising money for the nook appeal - our £10 million appeal to transform children's palliative care across Norfolk, including a new hospice in the heart of the county. So far the evening has raised a phenomenal amount, with the current total standing at £350,000!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all sponsors, supporters and guests who made the evening truly magical, and so successful.

The EACH Gala Dinner was kindly sponsored by The New Homes Group, who are great supporters of the charity. The group has recently pledged further support; making a hugely generous gift of £77,000, which will fund the entire cost of a fully equipped en-suite family room at the nook. We thank them for their fantastic support.

The nook appeal was officially launched on 25th November 2014 in the presence of our Royal Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. The Gala Dinner featured a message from The Duchess, which was shared with guests on the night:

HRH The Duchess of Cambridge the nook appeal launch

"Good evening everyone and thank you all so much for supporting East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, a wonderful organisation of which I am incredibly proud to be Patron.

It has only been two years since I had the privilege of attending the launch of The Nook Appeal in Norwich and I am delighted to hear fundraising is going well. Congratulations to you all.

EACH delivers exceptional care and support across East Anglia and The Nook is vital for their vision of further transforming children’s palliative care in Norfolk. Not only will The Nook be a very special place to receive care, it will become a central hub from which the specialist team can co-ordinate, develop and deliver vital services in hundreds of family homes. I am in no doubt The Nook will make a huge difference to thousands of children and families for many years to come.

I do hope you all have an enjoyable evening and are able to continue helping EACH move ever closer to achieving their vision. Thank you again for your support."

Our special thanks to the following for their fantastic support:

  • I can’t imagine what it would have been like. Nobody should have to, every family should be offered the support we were, and are still getting Claire, Jacob’s mum
  • EACH supports families when they’re at their absolute lowest, helping them to come to terms with their child’s illness, losing them and beyond Brad, Stanley's Dad
  • The play specialists are excellent and I also get inspiration from the activities they organise. Heather, Lucy’s mum
  • EACH has helped us keep Stanley’s memory alive. And allows us to look to the future Brad, Stanley's Dad
  • It’s been a great opportunity to meet other parents in a similar situation, something that doesn't really happen anywhere else. Helen, William’s mum
  • I didn’t realise hope was a gift until I became a mum. My little boy taught me many things and that was one of them Claire, Jacob’s mum
  • EACH helped us with coping mechanisms and special ways of remembering Stanley. Brad, Stanley's Dad
  • EACH helps us to create lovely memories and has played an important part in all of our lives, not just Lucy’s. Heather, Lucy’s mum
  • We arrived at the hospice feeling scared and alone. We had so many questions – they answered them all and more. Claire, Jacob’s mum
  • Renee loves going to The Treehouse, but it’s great that care staff are also able to visit us at home too. Stacy, Renee’s mum
  • When we first heard about the hospice we were apprehensive because we didn’t know what to expect. When we got there we realised it was a lovely place where Renee would be well looked after, and we would be able to have a much-needed break. Stacy, Renee’s mum
  • Children like Lucy don’t get the opportunity to go to sleepovers or to their friends for tea, so the interaction she has at the hospice is priceless. Heather, Lucy’s mum
  • I really love going to the hospice. I’ve made friends there and get to do loads of fun stuff. Renee
  • We are also supported by the 24/7 True Colours nurses and it’s so reassuring knowing we can call on them whenever we need support or advice Helen, William’s mum
