“We wanted to do something positive and were pleased and proud to raise as much as we did” – footie friends hit the back of the net for EACH

Family, friends and colleagues laced up their boots and showed their skills during a fundraising football match for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). The 11-a-side contest was organised by pals Grant Miles and Chris Fisher and took place at The Nest, in Horsford.

After a day of fun and friendly competition, and with Gift Aid added, more than £1,000 was raised for EACH, which has a base at Framingham Earl.

“It was fantastic, very successful and enjoyable and something we’d like to become an annual event,” said Grant, 31.

“We had some amazing feedback afterwards and participants were kind enough to say it was a well-run event and that they had a lot of fun. We wanted to do something positive to help make a difference and were pleased and proud to raise as much as we did.

“Amazingly, £360 alone was donated on the day. We raised £935 which, with Gift Aid added, increased the amount significantly to more than £1,160. We hope the funds will go some way to helping out such a fantastic charity.”

The match, officiated by a Norfolk Football Association referee and watched by nearly 50 people, took place in glorious sunshine and it was the Blue team who emerged victorious, pipping the Reds 4-3. The respective managers wore blue and red tops sporting the names of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp.

There was a barbecue afterwards followed by a trophy ceremony for the top goal-scorer and player-of-the-match. Four EACH volunteers gave up their time to help out on the day. The match took place on Saturday, 19th August.

Grant and Chris, who is 32, both live in Hellesdon. To show your support and make a donation, head here.
