Do you like the idea of serving customers in a popular charity shop?
If so, volunteers are needed to help out at the busy East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) store in Hadleigh.
The team are keen to hear from anyone willing to give up some time – even if just a couple of hours a week – and lend a hand in their High Street shop.
They are particularly keen to find someone to operate the till on a Saturday.
Shop manager Michael Farrell said: “We’re always on the lookout for more volunteers.
“We can never have enough extra help and every pair of hands makes a huge difference.
“Even if it’s just a day, morning or afternoon a week, it would certainly help and there are various roles, to suit people’s strengths and interests.
“We’d particularly love to hear from anyone keen to serve customers on Saturdays. That’s a role we urgently need to fill.
“It’s a hugely busy day and we’d love to hear from young people, especially, who might like to gain experience working in a retail environment.
“I have some helpers working towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards. They’re brilliant and help no end, but unfortunately they’re too young to serve on the till.”
EACH recently ran its fortnight-long We Need You campaign, encouraging more volunteers to step forward and help out in one of its 44 shops.
The organisation relies on voluntary donations for the majority of its income and needs to raise £5.4 million from its Retail operation during 2022.
The pandemic has had a major impact on volunteer levels.
Numbers are down 21% compared to the figures pre-COVID and that equates to just short of 200 people.
“Working here is great fun and volunteers are guaranteed a warm welcome from our small, close-knit and friendly team,” added Michael.
“It’s also hugely rewarding because by volunteering you’re doing your bit to raise vital funds.
“It helps us continue to support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia.”
EACH’s Hadleigh shop, which is due for a major refit next month, is open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm.
