“Everyone had great fun, finding their inner-child” – fun-loving superheroes show their steel to raise funds for EACH

Fun-loving fundraisers dressed up as their favourite superheroes and tackled a wacky obstacle course. The event, held to mark National Superhero Day, was organised by personal trainers Dan Brown, Adele Lloyd-Brown and Ben Mendrys and held at Riverhills Health Club, in Bramford.

Proceeds totalling more than £1,000 are being donated to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), which has three hospices, including The Treehouse, in Ipswich. There were races both for adults and children and the colourful event was held on Saturday morning.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate National Superhero Day,” said Dan, who works for DNA Personal Trainers Ltd, which runs bootcamps and an Obstacle Course Race Class (OCRC), as well as personal training. We had a great turnout, the weather was perfect and everyone came together to raise money while tackling adversity, taking on a challenge while dressed as their favourite superhero.

“We had people there as Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America and even Buzz Lightyear. They had great fun, finding their inner-child, and there was a mix of testing and simple obstacles, including ones that tested strength as well as rope pulls, monkey bars and climbing walls.”

Nearly 50 people took part, including children as young as four and five, and younger participants tackled two 800m races. Adults then enjoyed a 5k run, followed by a 3k obstacle course. Everyone who took part received a special souvenir fridge magnet. Dan’s fundraising page is still open and can be visited via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ocrc-heroes

“We picked EACH because it’s a special cause and we like doing things to support children’s charities,” he added. “Myself and my wife knew a family that used the services and one of our regular training runs went past The Treehouse. We know how important it is to people here in our community, as well as across the rest of Suffolk and East Anglia. It really was a fantastic, fun day and we’ve already got a date in the diary to do it again next year on Sunday, 30th April.”

National Superhero Day was last Thursday, 28th April.

EACH supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Suffolk, as well as North and West Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. As well as The Treehouse, it has two other hospices – The Nook, in Framingham Earl, near Norwich, and at Milton, near Cambridge.

Notes to Editors

“We’d heard about EACH and knew they were a fantastic cause that had supported families we knew, but we never thought we’d be the ones that needed them! Sadly, as fantastic as it is, their service will always be required, and every child who needs their help deserves to have it.”

  • We care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, and support their families.
  • We offer families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support, including where their child dies – at home, in hospital or at one of three hospices at Milton (Cambridge), The Nook (Norfolk) and The Treehouse (Ipswich).
  • Our family-centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management support, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies and counselling, all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family.
  • We are recognised as leaders in our field, with a reputation for excellence and commitment to pioneering development and innovation.
  • We rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income and this year need to raise £5.5 million from fundraising and £5.4 million in income from our shops. The year before the pandemic we received just 16% of our total income from statutory sources.
  • EACH Royal Patron – Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.
