A leading children’s charity is launching a new volunteer recruitment campaign to highlight the different roles available within its 48 shops.
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is looking for extra help across the region, including its busy Retail Distribution Centre, in Thetford.
The charity has a fast-growing retail operation and there are opportunities to suit people’s skills and interests.
EACH’s ‘Don’t pass by, give volunteering a try!’ campaign is shining a spotlight on those roles – from serving customers to sorting and pricing donations, dressing windows, steaming clothes, testing electrical equipment and listing items on eBay.
It will run for three weeks from today, with posters and flyers on display in every shop, as well as coverage and volunteer stories being shared online and via social media.
Hannah Milbourne, Volunteer Services and Development Manager, said: “There are so many things that make a genuine difference.
“Everyone’s different and people have such a vast range of skills and backgrounds.
“That’s why it’s so important to highlight the different things they can do, because it’s not just about serving on the till – although that’s very important, of course.
“Some volunteers love that interaction with customers, but we appreciate it’s not for everyone.
“Others prefer being behind the scenes, but the point is, all these jobs are equally important and vital parts of a bigger picture.
“Any amount of time helps and we need all the cogs and pieces to join together, moving in the same direction, to help support our large retail operation.”
Other roles include being a key holder, listing and sending books and being a driver’s mate, heading out to distribute goods, including collecting and dropping off furniture.
“There’s something to suit everyone, with flexible hours and a warm, friendly welcome guaranteed,” added Hannah.
“Volunteering is a fun, sociable and rewarding way of making a difference to children and families in our community. It can also provide valuable experience and provide a pathway into a career in the retail sector.
“We’ve got shoes to fill within all our shops and I’d encourage anyone to give it a try and become part of our great team.
“Even if people don’t have time to volunteer, they can still support our campaign by sharing details from our social media, promoting the idea in their workplace and telling family and friends.”
