Cece and friends’ spooktacular Halloween Funday raises £800 for EACH

Young entrepreneur Cece Southgate organised a spooky Halloween Funday Fundraiser for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The ten-year-old was joined by kind-hearted friends to run stalls at the event, which took place at Histon Smokehouse.

All the stalls were organised by children selling their own creations, including handmade jewellery and tote bags, and between them they raised more than £800.

Other highlights included spooky games, a raffle and cakes, cookies and a doughnut stand.

Inside, the Smokehouse served all-day brunch and two-for-one adult cocktails and there was live music from Histon’s Luca Edmondson, 13.

There was also crafting fun for little ones organised by Mucky Pups Cambridge.

Cece, who lives in Histon and goes to Histon and Impington Brook Primary, had previously raised £354 by making and selling her own jewellery in the summer holidays and a bumper cheque for £812.30 was handed to EACH Community Fundraising Manager Tina Burdett.

Ali Southgate, Cece’s mum, said: “The fundraiser went incredibly well.

“Cece has always been a driven and creative girl and we’re so proud of how she’s turned a talent for designing and making jewellery into something that has now raised over £1,100.

“However, the success of the Halloween event was down to the incredible local children who showcased their crafting talents.

“The things they made were absolutely wonderful and they impressed everyone with their creativity and professionalism.

“Their products were of such a high standard and people came out in droves to support them, in spite of the bad weather.

“We’re also hugely grateful to (owner) Simon Morrice and the team at Histon Smokehouse, who have supported and encouraged Cece’s entrepreneurial spirit from the start and helped make the event such a big success.

The raffle helped bump up the fundraising total and all the children donated their stall fee and gave 20% of their profits from the day.

Now the kind-hearted group are planning a similar event for Christmas.

“The kids are already talking about doing a festive craft event,” added Ali.

“It would be lovely if this became an ongoing fundraising relationship between the Histon kids, Smokehouse and EACH.

“In the meantime, Cece will continue making jewellery and giving 20% of her sales to EACH.

“She puts money in a pot every time she makes a sale and is really driven by this little venture.”

EACH Community Fundraising Manager Tina said: “This was a very special achievement.

“Cece and her friends did an amazing job raising so much money and it will help us continue providing care and support for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, and families, across Cambridgeshire and East Anglia.”

EACH has three hospices, including one at Milton.
