Can you spare an hour or two to join our fundraising volunteer team in the run-up to Christmas?

A campaign to recruit more fundraising volunteers to support the work of a local children’s hospice has entered its second week – and there are plenty of festive events coming up for anyone keen to get involved.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) launched #WeNeedYou – Be the difference. Be an EACH Champion on 25th October.

It comes hot on the heels of this year’s campaign for retail volunteers, with the charity now looking to boost numbers to support its fundraising team.

EACH is keen to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, with particular emphasis on events coming up in the next few weeks.

The charity is fortunate enough to have some loyal and committed volunteers, but has seen a reduction since the pandemic.

Opportunities include collecting Christmas trees for EACH’s recycling scheme or being a bucket collector at one of the charity’s carol services in Milton, near Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Norwich, King’s Lynn, Holt, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Woodbridge.

Bucket collectors are also needed to help at the Ipswich Regent pantomime, which includes free tickets to see this year’s show, Aladdin, and runs from 17th December to 2nd January.

Or perhaps you fancy being a marshal at EACH’s Granta Park Santa Run, in Cambridge, on 9th December.

Hannah Milbourne, EACH’S Volunteer Services and Development Manager, said: “We’re into the second week of our campaign and on the lookout for anyone willing to lend a hand and support our fundraising activities across East Anglia.

“This would be at one of our own events or one organised by a third party, corporate and community speaking or bucket and pot collections.

“Our volunteer team is friendly and welcoming and by agreeing to get involved, people will be doing something valuable and worthwhile right in the heart of their community. Volunteering can give you such a feelgood factor, especially during the festive season.

“Even if they can only spare an hour or two, they will be making a real difference and directly helping us raise vital funds to support children and young people with life-threatening conditions.

“There are various opportunities, all of which are fun and flexible, and I firmly believe there’s something for everyone.”

If you are planning a resolution to volunteer more next year, you might want to add this date to your diary – The Piglet Junior Hog challenge, taking place near Woodbridge in July.

Volunteers are needed to help at this muddy obstacle course event, which is sure to provide a day of fun for families, children and adults alike.

EACH cares for children, young people and families across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
