“A warm welcome is guaranteed and it’s a chance to see our shop, have a cuppa and find out more about volunteering” – open afternoon is an opportunity to learn more about supporting EACH in Cambridge

Would-be shop volunteers keen to raise funds for a leading children’s charity have the chance to find out more at a special open afternoon. East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is opening a new store in Milton Road, Cambridge.

The ribbon is being cut at 10am on Thursday, 16th February and it will be the 46th shop in EACH’s portfolio – the ninth in Cambridgeshire. Prospective volunteers are being invited to an open afternoon at the shop from 2pm this Thursday (9th February).

They will have the chance to ask questions and meet the charity’s Retail Area Manager for the North-West, Simon Foster.

Simon said: “Everyone here is extremely excited to be opening in such a popular, busy part of the city and it’s a location we’ve had our eye on for some time. As ever, though, the key to its success will be building a team of wonderful volunteers because they’re the driving force behind our Retail operation.

“Anyone interested in joining us, doing something incredibly worthwhile, learning new skills and meeting new people and friends is invited to our open afternoon on Thursday. A warm welcome is guaranteed and it’s a chance to see our shop, have a cuppa and find out more about what volunteering entails.

“We can answer questions and talk about the range of jobs available. There’s a real variety, to suit people’s skills and interests, and it’s a great way to gain valuable retail and admin experience.”

The address for the new shop is 125 Milton Road, Cambridge, CB4 1XE. If you are unable to attend the open afternoon but would still like to find out more, email volunteerservices@each.org.uk

Simon added: “No experience is necessary – just a positive attitude and the willingness to get stuck in and work hard. Just a few hours a week can make a huge difference and shifts are available from Monday to Saturday (9am to 5pm).

“Volunteering can be flexible to fit around other commitments. Just let us know what works for you.”
