Practice and professional development
EACH aims to provide education and training for professionals caring for children with life-threatening conditions and their families...
We are committed to evidence-based practice in children's palliative and supportive care and promote Lifelong Learning and the continual professional development of all staff.
The Education Centre at Milton offers an annual training programme for internal staff, many of the courses being open to external professionals.
Courses range from practical training such as use of syringe drivers to bereavement care, communicating with non-verbal children, child protection, spirituality awareness and complimentary therapy.
A team of Practice Development Nurses have developed a specialist competency framework and specific programmes have been established for newly qualified nurses or nurses new to the children's palliative speciality. We have a portable Clinical Skills Lab for teaching, with portable equipment to allow access by all staff.
We support staff undertaking external courses of study (e.g. Masters Degrees) by providing individual mentoring and many of our staff are asked to provide consultancy or teach both in the UK and abroad.
The Education Centre also offers conference and seminar room facilities to external professionals working in related fields, and has a substantial library of resources on all aspects of palliative and supportive care.
