28 Jan 10: Take on the London Triathlon for EACH!

28th January 2010

Athletes of all abilities are being urged to swim, cycle and run to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

EACH, which provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families, has a number of charity places for the London Triathlon 2010, which takes place at the ExCel Centre in London on August 7 and 8.

The London Triathlon is the largest event of its kind in the world with around 13,000 participants swimming, cycling and running various distances.

It’s possible to take part as an individual, competing in all three disciplines, or entering as part of a team and dividing the three parts.

You don’t have to be a pro to enter either- each year around half of those taking part have never entered a triathlon before.

Mark Fox and team mates from last year's London TriathlonMark Fox, EACH Suffolk community fundraising co-ordinator, competed in last year’s event and he plans to do the same in 2010.

He said: "I took part in the London Triathlon 2009 with a couple of friends, each taking on a different discipline. I chose the swim; a daunting task considering I had not swam for about 15 years. I set myself a target of 35 minutes for the mile and I managed to complete it in 34 minutes and 52 seconds!

"We had an amazing day in London and would recommend the experience to anyone.

"The team event was particularly enjoyable knowing with every stroke and kick; you are competing not only for your own goals, but those of your team mates also.

"What really pushed us on was knowing we were raising money for EACH to help children with life threatening conditions and complex healthcare needs."

EACH has a limited number of places available, but if you do choose to compete for and EACH will be able to provide you with full support including fundraising advice and training tips.
