16 Nov 09: Stowmarket success

16th November 2009

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) staff have spoken of their delight following the successful opening of their new charity shop in Stowmarket.

On Thursday 12th November, the new shop in Ipswich Street was officially opened by Vera Waspe, Stowmarket Town Mayor, in the company of EACH staff, volunteers and customers.

A staggering £750 was taken in the first day of trading, which saw many customers queuing along Ipswich Street to enter the shop.

After a hugely successful opening, it is hoped the success will continue, as EACH, which provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families, relies upon voluntary donations for the majority of their £5.8 million annual running costs.

Stuart Basten, shop manager said: "I am delighted to be able to use my 30 years of retail experience to put something back into the local community by helping EACH.

"I would like to thank all of the volunteers for their hard work in getting the shop ready, and everyone who has donated goods - we now hope to make lots of money to help EACH to continue their good work."

Vera Waspe, said: "I am honoured to have been asked to officially open the new EACH shop in Stowmarket, and I wish the charity every success."

Local residents are now being urged to donate goods to the shop including: good quality clothing, bric-a-brac, modern paperbacks, toys, jewellery, DVDs, household linens and small electrical items. Please bring any suitable items to the shop where you will be given a warm welcome by manager Stuart Basten and his team.

Larger items can also be donated to EACH and to arrange for them to be collected - please contact Karen Boxall, retail support manager, tel: 01842 821620.
