3 Sept 09: Star for a Night

3rd September 2009

Performers from across Suffolk are being urged to take part in a talent show to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Singers, dancers, bands and magicians to name but a few are being invited to attend auditions throughout September and October, with the most successful acts going on to perform in the ‘Star For a Night’ event, which is being staged at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich on May 14th, 2010.

Talent scouts will be at the ‘Star For a Night’ event on May 14th; which organisers hope will not only showcase the county’s talent but also raise vital funds for EACH, which provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes, as well as at the charity’s hospices based at Ipswich, Quidenham and Milton in Cambridge.

Roly Burrows, event organiser, said: "Last year I attended an event in London where my granddaughter was performing with a local drama group. It was in aid of charity, and when I was there I thought I have to organise something like this for a children’s charity.

"There is no prize for the final ‘Star For a Night’ event, but the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and talent scouts as well as knowing your performance is raising vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices is a prize in itself."

Mr Burrows, who is chairman of Bucklesham Community Council, has organised a number of charitable events over the years, but hopes the ‘Star For a Night’ event will top anything which has gone before it.

The Star For a Night talent show is open to anyone aged eight and over.
