14 Aug 09: Scatter Rally

14th August 2009

On Friday 18th September twelve cars will set off from Norwich on an exciting fundraising challenge which will see them travelling over 500 miles– but only two people in the world know where they will end up three days later!

The ‘Scatter Rally’ is being organised by Norfolk Rhinos members Jim Barrett-Smith and Matthew Stevens. Inspired by taking part a similar national event earlier in the year, the local men decided to organise an event around Norfolk and Suffolk for members of the Norfolk Rhinos, Norfolk’s Suzuki Off-Road Club.

At the starting line in Norwich each team will be provided with a map, a set of instructions on how to plot their route to get to the next stage and list of questions which can only be answered if they plot the route correctly. Once a team completes a stage they will be provided with new maps, instructions and questions, and to add to the challenge, at the end of each day the team will need to set up camp and cook their own food.

As well as being a great fun adventure, the Scatter Rally will also be raising money for a local good cause – East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families at the Quidenham hospice, and in family homes throughout the region. EACH was voted the chosen charity by club members, and Mr Barrett-Smith commented "EACH has touched the hearts of everyone in the club, and the passion to raise money for the charity is high."

The team have already raised over £2000. Jessica Hiscocks of EACH commented "This is a fantastic amount to have raised, we really appreciate it. At EACH we rely on public support for the vast majority of our income, and the money raised through the Scatter Rally will make a real difference."

Mr Barrett-Smith added "If you see a 4WD on the back roads of Norfolk or Suffolk on the weekend of the 18th September, with a large EACH sticker on the door, looking rather lost, then give them a toot of the horn and a wave with the knowledge that a local club is raising money for a local charity."
