26 Nov 09: Peterborough Santa Run

26th November 2009

Time is running out to sign-up for this year’s Peterborough Santa Run in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) but as an added incentive, free train rides will be on offer.

The Peterborough Santa Run takes place at Ferry Meadows Country Park on Saturday December 5, and David and Sandra Coging of Ferry Meadows Railway have kindly offered to provide free diesel train rides around the park for all participants and volunteers following completion of the Santa Run.

A number of Santa Runs are held across East Anglia every year and involve people of all ages dressing up as Santas, getting sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues and running a route to raise funds for EACH.

EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes, as well as at the charity’s hospices based at Milton in Cambridgeshire, Ipswich in Suffolk, which also serves North Essex, and Quidenham in Norfolk.

This year it is anticipated that it will cost around £5.8 million to run all three hospice services - approximately 72 per cent of this is required from voluntary donations.

Karen Chesney, EACH events fundraiser, said: "Santa Runs are a great way to have fun and raise vital funds for EACH.

"We are incredibly grateful to David and Sandra at Ferry Meadows Railway for their generosity and hope this encourages more people to sign-up."

The Peterborough Santa Run takes place at 11am on Saturday December 5.

The route is approximately 2km and Starts and finishes at Ferry Meadows Country Park.

Adult entry is £10 and children under 13 are £5. As an added bonus, if you already own a Santa suit you can enter the Santa Run for a reduced price.

Volunteer marshals are still needed to help guide the Santa runners along the 2k route - they need to be available from 10am until midday.
