18 Sept 09: 100 mile challenge

18th September 2009

Fitness fans are being encouraged to sign-up for a sponsored 100-mile charity challenge to raise vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

On September 28, Spirit Health Club, based at The Holiday Inn, Cambridge, will launch a two-week 100-mile charity challenge, which will see teams of between two and four people swimming five miles, rowing 15 miles, running 30 miles and cycling 50 miles.

Every person enrolled in the challenge will pay £5 to enter, which will be donated to EACH, and it is hoped more money will be raised through sponsorship. Health club staff hope the challenge will motivate people to exercise as well as raise money.

Andy Griffin, Spirit Health Club Manager, said: “This challenge is a great way of motivating people to exercise, as there is a competitive element to it, as well as getting people to make new friends, try a new form of exercise and raise money for EACH.

“Both staff and health club members are really looking forward to taking part and we also hope people will take advantage of the two-week £15 memberships and see what we have to offer“, he added.

The challenge is open to all of Spirit Health Club’s members, but the club is also offering a two-week membership for non-members at a cost of £15, which will be donated to EACH.

EACH, which provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes, as well as at the charity’s hospices based at Ipswich in Suffolk, Quidenham in Norfolk and Milton in Cambridgeshire, has been chosen by Holiday Inn, Cambridge as their charity of the year.
