Handel’s Messiah, the most famous Christian Oratorio, will be performed in the heavenly surroundings of The Church of St Peter Mancroft in Norwich to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The sacred oratorio will be performed in the city during the festive period and will bring to life Handel’s famous arias and choruses.
In April this year, local singer Jason Lambert decided he would like to stage a performance of Handel’s Messiah in Norwich at Christmas and set about asking local choirs and orchestras for support.
His friend Rik Wilson has also helped to organise and promote the event and between them have managed to pull together a number of singers and a 20-piece orchestra.
Jessica Hiscocks, EACH community fundraising co-ordinator for North Norfolk and Norwich said: “This should be an excellent night for classical music lovers.
“I know how much work Jason and Rik have put into organising this concert and we really appreciate their support
Messiah - A Sacred Oratorio by G.F Handel will be performed at The Church of St Peter Mancroft, Norwich on Saturday December 12 at 7pm.
Tickets are £10 adults, £8 concessions, and are available from Prelude Records, St Giles Street, Norwich or by contacting Rik Wilson (tel: 01603 449880).
EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes, as well as at the charity’s hospices based at Quidenham in Norfolk, Milton in Cambridgeshire and Ipswich in Suffolk, which also serves North Essex.
This year it is anticipated that it will cost around £5.8 million to run all 3 hospice services - approximately 72% of this is required from voluntary donations.
