The third Norfolk Superhero Challenge has raised a fantastic £3500 for local charity East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The Challenge, which took place at Burnham Overy Straithe on 27th June, saw participants swim a mile up the creek from Gun Hill, kayak 4 miles through Overy and Norton Creeks, cycle 40 miles and then finally run 8 miles to Holkham. The last mile of the challenge was probably the hardest, involving running across the muddy marshes back to Burnham Overy Straithe.
The challenge has grown from 13 teams in its first year in 2007 to a total of 40 teams this year.
The challenge was organised by local ladies Sarah Green and Jessica Lapping. Jessica commented “The event was a great success, and there was a fantastic atmosphere. We’d like to thank all the local businesses who supported us, and everyone who helped to marshal the event, both on land and at sea – we couldn’t have done it without you!”
While sponsorship was not mandatory, many people chose to raise money for charity, and this year EACH benefitted by £3500.
EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families at the Quidenham hospice, as well as in family homes throughout Norfolk.
Jessica Hiscocks, Community Fundraising Coordinator for EACH commented “We are so grateful to Sarah and Jessica, and everyone who took part in the Norfolk Superhero Challenge this year. At EACH we rely on the generosity of the public for the vast majority of our income, and this money will make a real difference."
