Colchester’s residents are being urged to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) by supporting their local charity shop.
Residents are being urged to donate high-quality goods to encourage shoppers looking for a bargain to visit, and volunteers are also needed to help run the shop.
Shop manager, Linda Turner, has only been in her post for one month and hopes the town’s residents will get on board and help support the work of EACH in Essex.
EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes, as well as at the charity’s hospices based at Ipswich in Suffolk, which serves North Essex, as well as Quidenham in Norfolk and Milton in Cambridgeshire.
This year it is anticipated it will cost about £5.8 million to run all three hospice services and approximately 72% of this is required from voluntary donations.
Items desperately needed for the shop include good quality clothing, bric-a-brac, modern paperbacks, toys, jewellery, DVDs, household linens, retro clothes and small electrical items including clocks and personal CD players.
The shop, which is located in Short Wyre Street, has a rear entrance where small goods can be dropped off, while larger items can be collected by the EACH van - just call Linda at the shop on: 01206 574754 or call Karen Boxall, retail support manager, on: 01842 821620.
If any items are unsuitable for sale in our shops we can usually either sell them at auction or recycle them, so most donations are acceptable.
If you are interested in volunteering in the shop contact Clare Bates, volunteer co-ordinator (tel: 01223 815134)
