A celebrity golf day which was hosted at Sprowston Manor in Norwich and saw sporting legends including Peter Shilton OBE, Graham Gooch OBE and John Conteh teeing-off together, has raised thousands of pounds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The event, which took place on October 4, and included a golf competition and black tie dinner, has raised a staggering £21,500 for EACH.
EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes and at the charity’s hospices at Quidenham in Norfolk, Ipswich in Suffolk, and Milton in Cambridgeshire.
This year it is anticipated that it will cost around £5.8 million to run all three hospice services - approximately 72 per cent of this is required from voluntary donations.
A total of 20 teams took part in the challenge including: Aviva, Plastic Building Supplies, JARK, Spec Savers, Mansells, Sprowston Manor, Ames Nissan, Swiss Re, Bourn Babes, Paragon Labels and EACH.
The winning team, with a score of 107 points, was JARK, who played with comedian Adger Brown, who was also compere for the evening.
The prize for the top celebrity player was awarded to Mike Milligan, a former Norwich City player.
Karen Chesney, EACH events fundraiser, said: "A good time was had by all at the Celebrity Golf Classic and we are incredibly grateful to all the celebrities, teams and sponsors who helped to make it such a success."
Stewart White from BBC Look East, Darren Eadie, Mark Barham and Dave Bennett from Norwich City and Simon Milton and Alan Lee from Ipswich Town FC also took part, while prizes were awarded during the Black Tie Gala Dinner by ITV’s Becky Jago.
The Headline sponsor of the event was Aviva, with Plastic Building Supplies and Jark also providing sponsorship.
The event is being staged again next year on Sunday October 3 - for more information contact Karen Chesney (tel: 01223 205192).
