26 Nov 09: Cambridge Santa Run

26th November 2009

Cambridge’s residents are being urged to sign-up for this year’s Santa Run in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The Cambridge Santa Run this year takes place at 10am on Sunday December 13th. The route is approx 2km - starting at The Grafton, which is generously sponsoring the event again this year, and finishing at Parker's Piece.

Cambridge on Ice, Cambridge’s outdoor ice rink at Parker’s Piece, is right by the finish, and EACH will benefit this year from the proceeds of the 11am skating session following the Santa Run. So this is the opportunity for the ultimate Christmas experience – skating dressed as Santa!

Cambridge On Ice was launched on Friday 13th November and hundreds of people have already donned skates to take to the ice - EACH hope their special skating session (which is open to the public, not just the Santas) proves popular to raise funds for the charity, which is the chosen charity of Cambridge on Ice this year.

"We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile cause – our skaters can have loads of fun on December 13th and give to a wonderful charity at the same time" says Brian Cleary, director of Cambridge on Ice.

The Cambridge Santa Run, which was recently launched on the catwalk at The Grafton’s recent Model Search competition, is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, so everyone can come and join in.

Karen Chesney, EACH events fundraiser, said: "The centre of Cambridge will be buzzing on Santa Run day – we can’t wait to see the red and white crowd from the Grafton to Parker’s Piece! Santa Runs are a great way to have fun and raise vital funds for EACH."

"We are delighted to be the Cambridge on Ice chosen charity this year, and would urge everyone to go ice skating at 11am on the day of the Santa Run to help us raise money."

Adult entry to the Santa Run is £10 and children under 13 are £5. If you already own a Santa suit you can enter the Santa Run for a reduced price.
