Residents of Bury St Edmunds and are being encouraged to join in the fun and enter the town’s Santa Run to raise funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The Santa Run has been staged in Bury for a number of years, but this year it will follow a new route - starting and finishing at the town’s arc shopping centre.
On Wednesday 30th September, Santa’s of all shapes and sizes gathered at the arc’s Charter Square to promote the event, which will take place on Sunday 29th November, and encouraged shoppers to sign-up and raise sponsorship for EACH.
Paul Haynes, arc centre manager said: "Charter Square is an ideal location for community events and we are delighted to be able to host the Santa Run for EACH.
"It will be great for the town to see Santas running through the streets and knowing they are doing it for such a worthwhile cause."
EACH provides care and support for life-threatened children and their families in their own homes, as well as at the charity’s hospices based at Ipswich in Suffolk, which also serves North Essex, Quidenham in Norfolk and Milton in Cambridgeshire.
This year it is anticipated that it will cost around £5.8 million to run all 3 hospice services - approximately 72% of this is required from voluntary donations.
Knights Lowe Chartered Accountants in Kempson Way, are generously sponsoring the Bury Santa Run for the third time.
Neil Sandry, senior manager at Knights Lowe, said: "The Santa Run is fun, it’s cute, and it’s a really great event to be involved in, especially as accountants often have a stuffy image, and our involvement with the event proves otherwise.
"EACH is a charity which Knights Lowe has supported for a long time and we are proud to be involved again this year."
Karen Chesney, EACH events fundraiser, said: "Santa Runs are a great way to have fun and raise vital funds for EACH, and we hope as many people as possible sign up the event.
The Bury Santa Run is approximately 3km and starts at 10:45am on November 29. Adult entry is £10 and children under 13 are £5. As an added bonus, if you already own a Santa suit you can enter the Santa Run for a reduced price.
The Bury Santa Run will have a festive feel, as it is taking place on the weekend of the Bury St Edmunds’s Christmas Fayre - including markets, fun fair rides and street entertainers.
Santa Runs in aid of EACH will also be taking place at the following locations:
Peterborough – December 5, King's Lynn – December 6, Cambridge and Ipswich– December 13.
