4.Feb.11: Feetbeat for Treehouse Appeal

4th February 2011

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Treehouse Appeal has teamed up with Town Kids Trust to raise money to build a children’s hospice.

Town Kids Trust, which is an Ipswich children's charity associated with Ipswich’s only local radio station, Town 102 FM, will be holding the Feetbeat Challenge in March. The event will see children of all ages taking part in a sponsored 3km walk around Christchurch Park in Ipswich.

The event will raise money to pay for an arts and crafts room in the new hospice, which will allow play specialists to provide fun and creative activities for all the children and young people to enjoy. The current hospice lacks such a facility, and the new room at the new hospice will be warmly welcomed by all who access EACH care and support services.

Tom Kay, Town 102 Programme Director, said: “Town 102 is proud to be the only commercial station for Ipswich. We’re passionate about the area we serve and love being part of family focused events such as Feetbeat.

“It’s a chance for kids to put down their games consoles and have a really fun day in one of the most beautiful areas of Ipswich. We hope we can raise loads of money and look forward to this becoming a regular event”.

Patsy Johnson, EACH Capital Appeal Fundraiser, said: “We are really excited about the Feetbeat Challenge and hope children and their parents will be inspired to take part in what will be a really fun event.

“Everyone at The Town Kids Trust has been fantastic, and they really have put a lot of effort into creating and organising this event.”

At The Feetbeat Challenge, children and their parents will ‘warm-up’ with Town 102’s popular station mascot Cheeko The Monkey and The Fitness Unit, get the opportunity to walk with their favourite Disney character, collect a Goodie Bag and pick up some treats on the way round, marvel at Magician Chris and win a medal from Cheeko when they’ve finished the walk.

Children will be encouraged to help with the housework, brush the dog, clean the car, help their grandparents etc during February to raise £30 and bring it with them on the day.

The event will start at the Mansion at Christchurch Park at 11.00am on Sunday, 6th March.

Please note: £1 out of every £10 raised will go to the Town 102 Kids Trust (reg charity no. 1120317), with the remaining £9 going to the Treehouse Appeal. The Town 102 Kids Trust is part of the Tindle Radio Trust Charity which aims to:
• To relieve poverty, hardship or the distress of families with children.
• To promote the physical or mental welfare of families with children in need of care and attention.
• To improve the lives of individual families with children and children's groups living in Ipswich.
