Pubgoers in Hougton have helped their local children’s hospice by becoming proud owners of the ‘Quizmaster Cup’.
The Three Horseshoes, in Houghton were worthy winners of the Charity Pub ‘Quiz with a difference’ organised by St Ives Rotary Club and held on March 24. They scored 168 points out of a maximum of 195 beating 34 other teams who entered this fourth holding of the event.
They won a prize cheque of £250 for their chosen charity, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, together with the ‘Quizmaster Cup’ and a case of 12 bottles of wine, sponsored by Wellington Wise Estate Agents.
In second place were the team from The Market Inn, Huntingdon, who scored 165 points, in third place were The Seven Wives, St Ives, scoring 160, fourth were The Rose and Crown, Somersham, with 157 and fifth place was The Victoria Inn, Huntingdon.
The Quiz was organised by St Ives Rotary club with help from the Rotary clubs of Huntingdon Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon Cromwell and Ramsey.
Rotary organiser Adrian Acton said: “We are delighted at the number of teams who entered the fourth holding of this event and would like to thank them and our sponsors, Wellington Wise, Estate Agents, for their valuable support. Some £1,500 will have been raised for charity on the night with over 420 people taking part.”
