Generous Cambridge shoppers have made a difference to life-threatened children in the region.
Customers at the Waitrose store in Fitzroy Street have raised £240 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) through the company’s Community Matters scheme.
Three good causes are chosen each month and the store donates £500 to them.
The scheme allows customers to indicate which of the three causes they would like to support by placing a token they receive at the checkout in the charity’s corresponding box.
EACH, which delivers care and support to life-threatened children and their families, received £240 and a cheque was presented to Becky Eytle, EACH fundraiser, on Tuesday (29).
Laura Maxted, who runs the Community Matters scheme in store, said: “Supporting local good causes is massively important to Waitrose which is why we run this scheme. It’s great that we are able to support EACH.”
Lawrence Seifert, team manager at the store said: “We support a wide variety of good causes including registered charities, community groups and schools; anyone who has a genuine need for support which will benefit the community is considered. All you have to do is come to the store and make a nomination.”
Becky Eytle said: “The Waitrose Community Matters scheme is a wonderful way to support local good causes and here at EACH we are incredibly grateful to have been nominated and receive funds in this way.”
