21.Jan.11: A Christmas Carol for EACH

21st January 2011

A cheque for £2,210 was presented to Jessica Hiscocks from East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices at St Marys’ Church, Great Massingham on Thursday 20th January.

The money was raised by staging “A Christmas Carol” in the church over three nights in December. Over fifty people took part or assisted in the production including a band and choir as well as members of the cast and production team. The switching on of the tree lights on the village green on Saturday 11th December was undertaken by members of “A Christmas Carol” providing music and carols with Tiny Tim and Charles Dickens performing the switch-on ceremony.
As well as the £2,210 raised through ticket sales a further £581.00 was collected from donations over the three nights giving a total of £2,791.00 for a very worthy cause.

“Charles Dickens would have been very pleased with our efforts having, in 1858, raised considerable funds for the Hospital for Sick Children in Great Ormand Street by his reading of his ‘A Christmas Carol’,” said Andrew Bickerton who adapted and directed the play.
