17.Feb.11: Virtual Ride for Life

17th February 2011

East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) are urging shoppers to get in the saddle to win a fabulous prize and help local life-threatened children.

EACH will be hosting an event called ‘Virtual Ride For Life’ at Queensgate Shopping Centre, and will offer a twist on the charity’s annual Ride For Life cycling event which takes place in Thetford Forest in May.

Esporta Thorpe Wood Health and Racquets Club will have two exercise bikes at Queensgate on Saturday February 19th and participants will pay £1 to cycle for one minute.

Couples, friends or siblings can compete against each other to cycle the furthest in one minute. The person who cycles the furthest in one minute will receive Marks and Spencer vouchers to the value of £50.

Phil Drinkwater, marketing manager at Queensgate, said: “Saturday’s Virtual Ride For Life is a fantastic way for our visitors to help raise money for EACH. It’s going to be a fun event and we hope to see plenty of shoppers hopping into the saddle and getting involved.”

Liz Brinsdon, EACH Corporate Fundraiser, said; “We’re really excited about the Virtual Ride For Life event taking place at Queensgate- It should be really fun and raise vital funds at the same time.

“As the challenge is short, timed at only one minute, we hope people of all ages and abilities will take part. As there will be two bikes at the event, there will be a great opportunity for couples, friends and siblings to battle it out against each other!

“We would like to thank Queensgate Shopping Centre and Esporta Thorpe Wood Health and Racquets Club for their support in helping us stage the event.”

Virtual Ride For Life will take place at Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough on Saturday February 19th and will run from 9am- 6pm.

If you would like to take the challenge a step further and cycle through the forest, why not consider signing up for the EDP Ride for Life?

The event takes place on Sunday 15th May 2011 at Santon Downham in the heart of Thetford Forest and a number of on-road and off-road routes are available. For more information call: 01953 715559 or 01223 205180.
