11.Mar.11: Feetbeat for Treehouse Appeal

11th March 2011

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and Town Kids Trust have raised thousands of pounds which will support life-threatened children and their families in Suffolk and North Essex.

Town Kids Trust, which is an Ipswich children's charity associated with Ipswich’s only local radio station, Town 102 FM, held the Feetbeat Challenge on March 6. This was a 3km sponsored walk around Christchurch Park in Ipswich.

At The Feetbeat Challenge, children and their parents took part in a ‘warm-up’ before following volunteers dressed as Disney characters along the 3km route. Children had the opportunity to collect a goodie bag and win a medal when they finished the walk.

The event raised more than £5,000 which will go towards arts and crafts rooms at The Treehouse, which will allow play specialists to provide fun and creative activities for all the children and young people to enjoy.

Patsy Johnson, EACH Capital Appeal Fundraiser, said: “Approximately 350 people took part in the event, from babies in buggies, to parents, to grandparents and we are absolutely delighted with its success.

“It was so much fun and lovely to see so many people coming together to support the cause.
“We would like to thank everyone at The Town Kids Trust, who have been fantastic, and to everyone at Town 102- they really put a lot of effort into creating and organising this event.”

Nik Joplin from the Treehouse Appeal Project Team, said: “We were amazed by the amount of people who took part in Feetbeat and put a lot of effort into dressing up as their favourite Disney characters- they all looked great.

“Well done to everyone who took part and raised such an impressive sum.”
